The Washington Children's Book Guild is hosting author Ruta Sepetys, author of the book Between Shades of Gray, a popular book among our group, at a luncheon at the Channel Inn in Washington D.C. on Thursday January 19. Caitlin is a fifth grader with Asperger's Syndrome. The death of her older brother in a school shooting launches her on a journey not only to identify her emotions but also to feel them so that she and her grieving father can find closure.
Caitlin and her father try to find closure after her brother, Devon, is killed in a school shooting. This is especially difficult for ten-year-old Caitlin because she has Asperger's Syndrome. While the general storyline is heartwrenching, Caitlin's voice is often humurous as she negotiates recess and the power of friendship.
